Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Piqua Catholic Annual Fund?
The Piqua Catholic Annual Fund is a yearly fundraising effort to help offset the school’s annual operating costs.  Donations made to the Annual Fund are considered “unrestricted” because they go to support the general needs of the school.

Why does Piqua Catholic need an annual fund?
A growing annual fund is critical to the school’s financial health.  Tuition dollars do not fully support the actual cost of educating a Piqua Catholic student.  Like every Catholic school, Piqua Catholic needs unrestricted support from alumni, families and friends to close the gap between income we receive from tuition and the actual cost of educating our students, which helps us keep tuition affordable for all.

What about parish subsidies?
Our parishes, St. Mary Church and St. Boniface Church are very generous with their support of the school, however, parish subsidies alone cannot close the gap between low tuition levels and continued rising costs.

How are Annual Fund gifts used?
Gifts are unrestricted and are used immediately for current programs, faculty compensation and professional development, curriculum and classroom enhancements, arts, athletics, religious education, retreats, and community service programs.

Will my Annual Fund gift support teachers and staff?
Yes! Piqua Catholic teachers make an average of 38.6% less than public school teachers.  We will continue to increase all teacher and staff salaries to offer a competitive wage, and your gift will help us reach this goal.

Why not just increase tuition?
Tuition does not cover the full cost of operating Piqua Catholic, falling short on average by about $3900 per student. We could increase tuition, but we know our alumni, families and friends are generous and want to help continue the over 168 year tradition of strong Catholic education in Piqua and see our school grow. As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit institution, donations to Piqua Catholic are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Tax deductible giving is a smart way to channel needed funds to Piqua Catholic for daily operations and also help moderate tuition increases from year to year.

Why is my participation important?
Today, more than ever, our children need the foundation of a Catholic education to help them meet the challenges of the modern world.  Your gift has an immediate impact at Piqua Catholic and demonstrates your belief in our mission and traditions, and shows support and understanding for the importance of Catholic education.

When should I make my donation?
All gifts made to the Annual Fund between July 1 and June 30 are included in Annual Fund totals, but the Annual Fund campaign really gets underway in November. Because the Annual Fund supports current purposes, pledges and gifts made early in the school year provide the greatest flexibility in delivering the Schools’ mission. All gifts are tax deductible and to gain maximum deduction for the current calendar year, gifts must be received before December 31st.

How can I make a gift?
Contributions may be made by check mailed to the school at 503 W North St., Piqua, OH 45356 or through our website via secured transaction with a credit card at www.piquacatholic.org/annualfund.  If you would like to make a recurring gift via bank draft or other method, please call the school at 937-773-1564 and we would be happy to work with you.

Who coordinates the Annual Fund?
The Annual Fund is led by the Piqua Catholic Advancement Committee, a dedicated group of alumni and alumni parents working closely with school leaders.

Who makes the decision about how gifts from the Annual Fund are used?
The principal in consultation with the school board determines the yearly budget and spending priorities.  Annual fund gifts will go to the yearly operating budget and provide the principal with the greatest flexibility for immediate priorities and positive impact fulfilling school needs and opportunities.

How much should I give?
Gifts of all sizes are welcome and range from less than $10 to over $25,000. There is a place and purpose for every gift.

How will gifts be recognized?
Gifts are recognized in our alumni, families & friends newsletter, “Connections”, mailed in July.  Periodic updates are also provided on the school’s website and church bulletins. Donors also have the option of giving anonymously.

Do you accept corporate matching gifts?
Yes.  Many employers offer a corporate matching program.  Annual Fund donors are encouraged to check with their employer to see if they will match their donation. Your employer will also be recognized for their matching gift.  This is a great way to increase your giving!

Will my gift make a difference?
Absolutely! Every gift is vital. Together, our gifts have a real and direct impact on the continued quality of Catholic education in Piqua!

What if I want to make a legacy gift or bequest in my estate to Piqua Catholic?
We would love to talk with you about how you can contribute through planned giving in your estate or naming Piqua Catholic as the beneficiary of an insurance policy, stock transfer or other giving options to the Piqua Catholic Future Fund at the Piqua Community Foundation.  Please contact the school at 937-773-1564 or email cavalier@piquacatholic.org to speak with us.
